THE MPIGI GROUP OF FORESTS ECOTOURISM PROGRAMME |
||
Mpigi women are established an Ecotourism programme focusing on revenue generation and environmental conservation around three forest reserves and two wetlands. One site is at Kkoba forest, another at Kyansozi and another at Lufuka forests. These are forests that have been highly degraded and it is hoped the efforts of the women will encourage local conservation and awareness on the essence of the reserves. The reserves are also to play a great deal in environmental education in the local schools. Through support from well-wishers the Ecotourism programme is setting up a campsite nearby a wetland to encourage wetland conservation. When built the site will generate revenue for building a local school and an healthcare facility. Technical support for the Ecotourism Programme is provided by our partners The East African Ecotourism Development and Conservation Consultants in Nairobi, Kenya.
